If you care to listen to my rants about human rights...

The poetic part of this post:

Powerless in a Powerful World
by Dreamer

As the wind softly,
gently,
caresses me.
I know I am
stuck.

Stuck between
the rings of
one
world and the
hold of
another.

Both hold power
beyond
my
imagination.

Power used carelessly
to
stop me
and pull me around
as if
I am
but a ragdoll,
a child’s toy.

“I have great ideas!”
I yell.
My words are simply
lost
in the
power of the worlds.

They laugh, simply
cruelly.
After all
I am but,
a child’s
toy.

Stuck between two worlds,
I am.
Both tossing me
and turning me
no regret
nor sorrow.

One day,
I hope,
my voice shall be
heard.
Among the power,
used so carelessly,
yet so
strongly.

But hoping is
but
a
wishful tone.
A dream
A want
A need
from the heart.

Powerful people
like the ones who
confine
me
don't listen to the heart.

They toss me and turn me
no regret
nor sorrow.
I am stuck,
powerless,
in a powerful world.

***

This is how I feel right now. Mostly I live a happy and peaceful life, but I can't help but feel a yearning for more serenity, especially in the world we live in today.

I know war is needed a necessary evil for a country to survive; without war I wouldn't be typing where I'm typing right now. But what I wish for, what I wish for is a place where war isn't necessary; a place where compromise is actually used. I know this will probably never happen, at least not within my lifetime or most of my future generations' ones.

One of my ideas, to make this world a safer, better, and less violent world is to teach people. Uneducated people are uncomfortable around certain races, religions, and/or sexualities. Uneducated people fall into the trap of stereotypes about these people. Uncomfortable/stereotypic people fall into the trap of hurt. Of hatred. Of bullying. [I know this has nothing to do with war per se but I feel that war is almost exactly this, just on a bigger scale, often dealing with similar yet different problems]. When I was younger I was simply only exposed to the "wrong" things about being a different sexuality. I was uneducated and ignorant. I was unimformed. I didn't stand up when people used "gay" or things like that as insults.

I'm different now. Why? I was educated. Through websites, books, people, and inspirations. That's why, often times, instead of feeling incredibly mad at homophobic, racist, or sexist people I feel sad. More times than not, these people haven't been exposed to people that are different. For example, I'm completely open to all religions and races because almost all of my friends have different backgrounds. I have Indian, Japanese, Taiwanese, Chinese, African American, Swedish, Christain, Jewish, and Agnostic (me!) friends. I've been educated about the horrors and racism of our world.

I have ideas. But few people hold power. Few people hold real power in our world that is. And unfortuantly I am not one of them.

However, I believe that if everyone puts a post like this on their blog. Or writes an article about this topic in the school newspaper. Or simply has an epiphany while reading this, things can change. And for the better.
